The City of Tipton and Mayor Kegan Schmicker announce the first-ever Tipton Tree Lighting Tradition taking place downtown from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1. The event will conclude with the official lighting of a brand new 30-foot Christmas tree at 6 p.m. in the heart of downtown.
The tree, which will feature 820 ornaments, will be installed by the Tipton Municipal Services Department in the coming days. This new holiday tradition is being introduced as a way to bring the community together and celebrate the start of the Christmas season in the heart of Tipton.
Details for the evening continue to be finalized, including live entertainment from local schools, seasonal music, and opportunities to enjoy warm hot chocolate. Family-friendly activities for children are also being planned. The city’s goal is to create a welcoming and festive experience for residents of all ages.
This inaugural event is being generously supported by The Farmers Bank. Established in 1876, The Farmers Bank will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026 and has a long history of supporting community traditions and local celebrations. The City of Tipton is grateful for the bank’s partnership and leadership in helping launch this new holiday celebration.
Coloring Contest
To help engage young residents in the new tradition, The Farmers Bank will sponsor a special tree lighting coloring contest. Coloring sheets will be distributed to local schools and available for pick up at Tipton City Hall beginning Monday, Nov. 10. Children who return their completed coloring sheet to City Hall by Wednesday, Nov. 26 will be entered for a chance to be selected as one of two young residents – a boy and a girl – who will join Mayor Schmicker on stage to officially light the Christmas tree on Dec. 1.

Schmicker
“We purchased the Christmas tree earlier this year as part of our ongoing investment in downtown Tipton and based on community feedback,” Mayor Schmicker said. “Then, when The Farmers Bank approached us about partnering on this new holiday tradition, we were thrilled. Their support has gone beyond sponsorship. They have contributed time, resources, and creative leadership, including helping design the official event logo. We are grateful for their commitment to our community and to bringing this new event to life for Tipton residents.”
No registration is required to attend. Event details and updates will be posted at Facebook.com/CityofTipton under the Events tab and at TiptonGov.com/city. A full schedule of activities will be shared one week prior to the event.
“We truly hope everyone in the community will join us downtown and help make this new tradition something special for years to come,” Mayor Schmicker said.
