The Tipton County Public Library (TCPL) will soon transition to a new Integrated Library System (ILS), scheduled to launch Wednesday, Nov. 5. It’s designed to create a more streamlined and efficient experience for patrons.
“Polaris will guide our community toward an enhanced library experience,” Library Director Jason Fields said. “We’re not just upgrading technology; we’re embarking on an adventure together with our patrons as fellow travelers.”
With this new system, library patrons can now:
- Navigate the catalog on their phone, tablet, or computer.
- Use Smart Searches, which feature spellcheck, automated search suggestions, and the option to view related keywords for their search.
- Check out and hold eBooks, audiobooks, and more, right from the catalog.
- Select a preferred pickup location from any participating library location.
- Choose to renew material automatically three days before it’s due.
- Change their communication preferences to be contacted via email, text, or automatic calls.
This is in addition to the existing features that library patrons can utilize, including the ability to manage existing holds and create reading lists. All of these changes make it easier than ever to save time and money while supporting your local library.
The library software system also supports behind-the-scenes library operations, such as cataloging, acquisitions, and patron records management, among others.
Minimal service disruption
TCPL assures patrons that library cards will remain active throughout the transition, and all borrowed materials will retain their current due dates. On Wednesday, Nov. 5, the new catalog goes live. Both library locations will be closed while staff verify that the new ILS is operating correctly. However, please be assured that your library card and account will automatically transfer to the new system.
