The Fishers boys basketball team traveled to Ben Davis for its season opener on Tuesday and came home with a 65-57 victory.
The game was close in the first half, with the first quarter finishing in a 12-12 tie. The Giants led 25-24 at halftime. Jason Gardner Jr. kept the Tigers in it with 11 points, while Lawrence North transfer Kai McGrew had seven points. Cooper Zachary made two first-quarter 3-pointers.
Fishers took control in the third quarter, pouring in 23 points for a 47-39 lead. McGrew scored nine points in the third. Ben Davis tried to come back in the fourth, but the Tigers held on, thanks to 10-of-13 shooting from the free-throw line.
Gardner scored 23 points, followed by McGrew with 19. Zachary totaled 11 points, including three 3s.
Fishers goes back on the road Friday, playing at Arsenal Tech.
