INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indy Ignite are back on the court and working hard ahead of their second season in the Major Volleyball League.
The team hopes to recapture the spark that took them right to the wire last time. A loss to Orlando in the championship final ended their inaugural season on a sour note, but the organization is raring to again in 2026.
General Manager Mary Kay Huse and outside hitter Leketor Member-Meneh joined Daybreak on Tuesday to talk about their excitement for the new season.
“We were able to re-sign a lot of our stars from last year, so it starts with building on that foundation. We brought in a new coach who has 10 years of coaching professionally over in Europe,” Huse said.
Member-Meneh spent a portion of the team’s inaugural season sidelined due to injury and missed the playoffs.
“”I’m excited to finally be able to put my jersey back on and be back on the court,” Member-Meneh said. “I’m excited to be with the new teammates. I’m excited to be with the new coaches and I’m ready to light it up.”
Huse is keen to emphasize the big role the fans have played in the Ignite’s growth.
“From day one of even announcing we would exist, the volleyball community has created such a groundswell for us. As we started the season, we really converted the broader sports community into volleyball fans. We had a lot of people who hadn’t seen volleyball in person, and once they saw it, they wanted to keep coming back.”
The Ignite’s 2026 schedule is out now and their home opener on Jan. 24 will see a rivalry revisited when the Omaha Supernovas come to town.
“They were the No. 1 seed that we upset in the first round of the playoffs last year, so that should be really fun,” Huse said.
If you’re not yet convinced, Huse invites potential new fans to come to the Fishers Event Center this coming season.
“It’s just a really, really fun night. Our athletes are just highly dynamic. They’re diving six, seven, eight feet and getting balls you never thought they would get to. We have really fun traditions and we’re going to be building on those.
Perhaps the Indy Ignite will see a spike in interest as their second season begins.
