CARMEL – So far this season, whenever the Carmel girls basketball team is on its home floor, all the Greyhounds do is win.

Carmel kept its victory streak rolling on Tuesday, pulling away from Zionsville 50-39 on Bill Shepherd Court at the Eric Clark Activity Center. After a slow start, the Greyhounds convincingly outscored the Eagles in the middle quarters, then cruised home in the fourth.
Zionsville led 12-6 after one quarter, with Bella Ramsey scoring all six of Carmel’s points. A basket from Emma Tinder at the start of the second period gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 14-6.
After that, the Hounds took over, going on a 15-4 run for the remainder of the period. Maddy Wallace scored four points, then Jacobi Warren drained three consecutive 3-pointers.
Warren said that she was “trying to be an energy spark for my teammates and lead by communicating and all those things. Glad I knocked down a couple shots, but I think my teammates set me up, put me in great positions to hit them.”
“This is the second game this year she’s started and had to shift roles just because we’re down a couple players tonight,” said Carmel coach Jess Darmelio. “She came out and hit some big 3s, just shows her versatility. Usually, she’s banging inside.”
Wallace hit a jumper to end the half and put the Greyhounds ahead 21-18. Carmel continued to build its lead in the third quarter, using a 13-5 spurt to go up 34-23. Ramsey scored six points during the quarter, while Taylee Fisher made a triple.
Warren finished the quarter with a layin and Carmel led 36-26 going into the fourth. Ramsey began that period with a 3, giving the Hounds their largest lead of the night at 39-26. Carmel kept its lead between eight and 12 points for the remainder of the contest.
“I just try to run the floor and get open positions,” said Ramsey. “My teammates do a really good job of finding my openings and passing the ball up whenever I run in transition.”
Ramsey finished the game with 21 points, while Warren scored 11 and Wallace added nine.
“I think we’re young and we still have a lot of progress that we’re hoping to make this season,” said Darmelio. “But the fact that we just keep building on it little steps at a time is unbelievable. I’m just so proud of how they buy in and continue to work hard every day.”
Carmel is 4-1 and plays Saturday at Fort Wayne Carroll.
