“Gwen Perkins is the embodiment of dedication, passion, and service at Hamilton Heights. Her commitment to our school community is nothing short of extraordinary – if I didn’t know better, I’d think she lived here! Gwen is always present, always involved, and always giving 110 percent of herself to students, staff, and families alike.
“First and foremost, Gwen is an exceptional science teacher. She brings learning to life through engaging, hands-on labs that ignite curiosity in her students. She also collaborates regularly with her science colleagues, ensuring a consistent, high-quality experience for all students. Beyond the classroom, Gwen leads her science PLC team with thoughtfulness and purpose, helping to drive curriculum and instructional improvements across the department.
“But Gwen’s contributions don’t stop there. She coaches both cross country and track, instilling in her athletes not only physical endurance but resilience and teamwork. She also leads the Husky Club, mentoring students as they volunteer their time to work concessions at middle school games – teaching responsibility, service, and school spirit. Speaking of concessions, Gwen is a constant presence at both middle school and high school sporting events, volunteering her time to support our athletic programs.
“And still, she does more. Gwen frequently attends student events – from choir and band concerts to athletic competitions – to cheer on and support her students outside the classroom. Her presence shows students that they matter not just academically, but personally. Gwen Perkins is a pillar of Hamilton Heights. She is more than deserving of this recognition.” – Bri Reeder

“Being nominated as a Husky Hero has made me feel so grateful to be a part of the Husky family and makes me feel appreciated,” Perkins said. “Each day, I strive to give my best to students and staff – building relationships, supporting colleagues, and growing alongside my students. It’s meaningful to know those efforts are seen and appreciated. You don’t always know if you are making an impact or not and how it affects others unless someone shares.”
Perkins credits the Hamilton Heights community for inspiring her growth.
“From the top down, relationships are the main priority, and the students are the main focus,” she said. “I am surrounded by other staff members who also don’t give up on finding new ideas on how to reach all students. I have grown so much and learn something new every day from either my students or staff. I appreciate being pushed by my leadership to get out of my comfort zone to take students to another level. I feel loved and hope that the students can see how much I care for them and their wellbeing. I am motivated in my role to grow and help the students also grow! “I’m thankful my path led me here.”
Perkins, now in her 28th year of teaching, said she is especially proud of her recent work with the instructional coach and a group of students who face academic challenges.
“We’re focused on helping them complete assignments and build confidence,” she said. “I’d love to use part of the Husky Hero award to provide tools and incentives that support their progress.”
Perkins concluded, “I truly appreciate how Hamilton Heights invests in its teachers and students. It’s a special place – and I’m honored to be part of it.”
