NOBLESVILLE – The Guerin Catholic girls basketball team dropped its first game of the season Saturday, Nov. 22, falling to Heritage Christian 40-34 in a hard-fought contest at the Eagles Nest.
Heritage led 14-6 after one quarter, with Cecilia Titus scoring five points for the Golden Eagles. Delanie Cardinal scored five consecutive points to start the second period, getting Guerin Catholic within 14-11. But Heritage finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 22-13 at halftime.
Heritage Christian held a 30-21 advantage after three quarters, with both teams scoring eight points in that period. Ella Horvath stepped up for GC, adding six points.
Horvath scored nine more points in the fourth quarter, but Heritage held on, never allowing the Golden Eagles to get closer than three points.
“I think we got a ton of shots. We just didn’t knock down the shots,” said Guerin Catholic coach Danielle Cardinal. “We changed a couple things at halftime, we made a couple adjustments, and I think they did a great job in the second half, completing the adjustments that we made and making it a ball game at the end.”
Horvath finished the game with 18 points.
The Golden Eagles are 3-1 and host Class 2A No. 3 Lapel at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
