Update No. 161
Kylie Dhonau, our Director of Food Services, headlined our quarterly Superintendent Advisory Group meeting last week. She shared a detailed and inspiring look into the daily operations that fuel our students and staff – literally and figuratively. From scratch-made meals to fresh, nutritious options, and the new Husky Sprout Initiative, our cafeterias are more than just places to eat – they’re hubs of care, creativity, and connection.
Every tray served reflects a commitment to student wellness, academic readiness, and a welcoming school environment. We’re proud of the dedicated team behind the scenes who make mealtime meaningful and delicious. Their work nourishes our bodies and gives us a sense of belonging and community throughout our campus.

Hamilton Heights Schools have launched a new “Tech Free Tuesday” initiative in partnership with community leaders. This program encourages students, families, and neighbors to take a weekly pause from screens and rediscover the power of face-to-face connection.
With support from HHMS and HHHS Counseling/Admin Teams, Officer Kevin Neal (HCSO), Summer Bailey (HHYAP), and Cicero Christian Church leadership, Tech-Free Tuesdays will soon be launching both in our schools and across the community. Nov. 18 marked our second Tech-Free Tuesday at participating Cicero restaurants that have begun creating tech-free zones and offering conversation prompts to spark meaningful dialogue.
Throughout the school year, Hamilton Heights will also continue finding ways of implementing Tech-Free Tuesdays with staff and students, reinforcing our shared commitment to presence, balance, and authentic engagement. We invite you to get involved or share ideas. Reach out to April Baugher (HHHS) at abaugher@hhschuskies.org or Sabrina Duncan (HHMS) at sduncan@hhschuskies.org with ideas, to get involved, or for more information.

With our first weather-related day of the season in the books, I would like to take this opportunity to remind our families about our district protocol for deciding on school delays, early dismissals, and cancellations due to inclement weather conditions. Making the decision to have a weather-related school delay or cancellation is made after careful consideration and often in tandem with our local, county, and state partners. Ice, snow, fog, a power outage, and other things all play a role in the decision, but the primary factor in our decision to delay or cancel school is based on student and staff safety.
Please visit our Inclement Weather webpage to familiarize yourself with our district’s communications processes and procedures if hazardous weather conditions warrant delays or cancellations. Take this time to make sure your contact information is updated within PowerSchool to ensure delivery of our messages. In preparation for possible delays and closures in the months ahead, stay weather aware and up to date through the corporation’s social media sites: X (@hhschuskies), Facebook, website, and/or the local media outlets.

As the seasons shift and crisp autumn days settle in, we’re reminded that Thanksgiving break is coming up next week. Whether you’re gathering with loved ones, savoring the flavors of the season, or simply stepping away from daily routines, I hope this time offers a chance to pause, reflect, and embrace a spirit of gratitude and appreciation.
