The City of Carmel has opened the application window for residents interested in serving on city boards, commissions and committees. This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about their community to play a direct role in shaping its future.
Most seats on Carmel boards and commissions are filled by either the City Council or the Mayor. To encourage as many applicants as possible, Carmel City Council President Adam Aasen initiated the creation of a new online form that allows Carmel residents to easily submit applications to be considered for both council and mayoral appointments. President Aasen asked Councilors Dr. Anita Joshi and Tony Green to take the lead on the creation of this online form, which helps promote inclusivity and community involvement.
Residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply to fill several upcoming vacancies or to indicate interest in future openings. Whether you are a long-time resident or new to Carmel, a professional with specific expertise, a student, a retiree or a stay-at-home parent, your perspective is valuable, and your voice is needed.

Aasen
“Serving on a board or commission is a fantastic way to give back to our community and have a real impact,” Aasen said. “And it’s important that a variety of voices are represented in these groups, so we encourage anyone with a willingness to serve to explore the options and apply.”

Joshi
“Joining a board, commission or committee is not just about contributing your skills and ideas,” Joshi said. “It’s also a great opportunity to connect with other passionate people who share your interests.”
Carmel has more than 30 boards, commissions and committees that cover a wide range of topics including planning and zoning, parks and recreation, housing, veterans and seniors. The groups provide critical input and recommendations to the City Council on important decisions that affect the day-to-day lives of all residents.

Green
“It’s about providing the best possible opportunities for citizens to serve,” Green said. “If you have a passion for community work and want to be a part of the solution, we strongly encourage you to submit your application.”
The new application form as well as descriptions about the different groups, including their roles and responsibilities, can be found on this page of the city’s website.
