University travelled to Hendricks County for the second time this week Thursday and completed the sweep picking up a 50-43 win over Tri-West.
The Trailblazers never trailed as they evened their record at 2-2.
Sydney Culp made 10 of 12 free throws on her way to a game-high 19 points. The senior was seven of eight at the line in the fourth quarter.
Leah Norvell (12 points and 11 rebounds) and Gabby Culp (10 points and 10 rebounds) had double doubles.
University jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a basket from Gabby Culp and three-pointer from Sydney Culp and led 11-7 after the first. The Blazers had a pair of eight point leads during the second period and went to the halftime locker room up 22-16.
The Trailblazers went cold from the field at the start of the third quarter making only two free throws in the first 5:30 of the half as Tri-West rallied to tie the game at 24. University’s freshmen combined to put them back in front as Brooke Henderson found Nyla Blanding cutting to the basket for a layin. University led 30-27 after three quarters.
The Bruins opened the fourth quarter with a three pointer to knot the score before Norvell made a bucket from the foul line with 6:15 left to put University up 32-30 and the Trailblazers led the rest of the way. Norvell’s three-pointer from the right corner put University up 35-30 and Tri-West was never closer than three points down the stretch. Blanding was 4-for-4 at the line as University made 11 of 12 charity tosses in the fourth quarter.
Blanding added six points and seven rebounds with Henderson pulling down nine rebounds and scoring three points. University held a 50-45 rebounding advantage with Mack Feeney grabbing seven rebounds and handing out a team-high seven assists.
