Utilizing a $2,300 grant from Elevance Health Foundation, the Westfield Lions recently partnered with Elevance Health employees to fill 750 bags of food for Westfield school students in need.
This is the third year in a row that the Lions and Elevance have taken advantage of the opportunity to secure funds to purchase food items for the Open Doors Food Pantry’s “Weekend Food Bag” program.

“Most residents probably don’t realize that Westfield has approximately 20 percent of their students receiving free or reduced meals during the week,” Carrie Larrison, Vice President of Special Programs at Open Doors, said. “This program helps ensure that those students have enough to eat on the weekends and during breaks.”
The motto of the Lions is “We Serve,” and working with organizations like Elevance Health that want to positively impact communities is a perfect way to reflect that. Fifteen Elevance employees worked side by side with several Lions to put together food bags that are delivered to all the Westfield elementary schools. Once the schools receive the food bags, the counselors at the schools distribute them each Friday to students who need them.
The Westfield Lions Club has been a significant supporter of the Open Doors Food Pantry over the years. They have donated thousands of dollars and volunteered countless hours to help sustain an integral part of the Westfield community.
