Fishers came back to win a wild overtime Hoosier Crossroads Conference game with Franklin Central Friday, Oct. 3 at Everwise Credit Union Field.
The Tigers won 36-35. The game was tied 28-28 at the end of regulation. The Flashes went first in overtime, and scored on a touchdown pass, followed by an extra-point kick.
Fishers matched the touchdown, with Gage Sturgill throwing a nine-yard scoring pass to Vincent Rozzi. Sturgill then attempted a two-point run and cruised into the end zone to clinch the victory.
Neither team led by more than seven points during the game. The Flashes scored first with a one-yard run at the end of the opening period. The Tigers immediately answered, with Sturgill and Rozzi connecting for a two-yard TD pass to start the second quarter. Maena Ocheing made the extra-point kick.
Minutes later, Sturgill scrambled 37 yards for a touchdown. Micah Hillen kicked the extra point, and Fishers led 14-7.
But FC came back with two touchdown passes and led 21-14 at halftime. Sturgill and Rozzi combined for a 14-yard touchdown reception, then George LeBlanc tied things up with an extra-point kick.
The Flashes went ahead 28-21 at the end of the third quarter with another touchdown pass. Franklin Central held the lead until the 13-second mark of the fourth: Sturgill found Darian Girton for a five-yard touchdown. Nolan Kuhn made the extra-point kick and sent the game to overtime.
Sturgill had an outstanding game completing 25 of 39 pass attempts for 347 yards. Rozzi made 16 of those receptions, totaling 258 yards. Kayden Myers led the defense with nine total tackles (seven solo, two assists), while Owen Stout and Graham Imes both made one sack. Tyler Maynard had three tackles for a loss.
Fishers is 4-1 in the conference and 5-2 overall. The Tigers play at Westfield this Friday; the Shamrocks are also 4-1 in conference play, so both teams are tied for second in the HCC standings.
