Sheridan set up a three-way showdown for the Hoosier Heartland Conference title with a 45-6 win over Delphi Friday, Oct. 3 at Bud Wright Stadium.
The Blackhawks are 4-0 in conference play, with Eastern and Carroll tied for second place with 3-1 records each. Sheridan plays at Eastern this Friday, then hosts Carroll next Friday, Oct. 17 to finish the regular season.
Sheridan steadily built its lead throughout the game, going up 16-0 in the first quarter. Alex Cravens scored the Hawks’ first touchdown on a short run, then Brody Heck blasted off for a 69-yard punt return TD.
Sheridan made two-point conversions after both touchdowns. Brock Hagan ran for two points after the first score, then Chance Spencer caught a two-point pass from Hagan after the second TD.
The Blackhawks enjoyed a 31-0 halftime lead after two second-quarter touchdowns. Landon Moffatt caught a seven-yard scoring pass from Brock Hagan, which was followed by a short TD run by Jon Barnes.
Hayden Alexander caught a two-point pass following Moffatt’s touchdown, then scored his own touchdown in the third quarter on a 14-yard run. Josue Rodriguez made a two-point run following Alexander’s TD. Delphi scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter by pass, but Cravens answered that with a 53-yard scoring run early in the fourth period.
Johnny Faupel kicked an extra point after Barnes’ touchdown.
Sheridan is 6-1 overall for the season.
