Purdue guard and Westfield graduate Braden Smith was named a unanimous preseason All-American by the Associated Press.
He was the only player to be voted in unanimously.
Smith is joined by J.T. Toppin (Texas Tech forward), Yaxel Lendeborg (Michigan forward), A.J. Dybantsa (BYU forward), and Alex Condon (Florida forward).
Smith averaged 15.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game last season.
He won the Bob Cousy Award last year, which is given to the top point guard in college basketball.
Smith was last season’s Big Ten Player of the Year and was named the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year this season.
Smith and the Boilermakers, who are No. 1 in the preseason AP poll, will tip off the season against Evansville on Nov. 4 at Mackey Arena.
