Tipton Blue Devils (4-3, 2-0 Hoosier Small) at Hamilton Heights (3-4, 2-1 Hoosier Big)
Tonight will be the 37th time that Heights and Tipton meet up on the gridiron. Heights holds a 22-14 record, including last season’s at Tipton, 14-13.
It’s been a series of streaks as of late. The Huskies have won three consecutive, but before that Tipton had won five in a row and Heights won the previous three going back to 2014.
The Blue Devils beat Frankton and Elwood. After that, Tipton dropped three of four to Twin Lakes, at Western, won at Rensselaer Central and lost at Heritage before defeating Lafayette Central Catholic.
Quinn Tolle is 64.5 percent passing (89-138) with 1,187 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Tolle also has 179 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Chase Hussey leads the ground game with 338 yards and 3 TDs and Dakota Garmon has caught 40 for 612, scoring six times.
Heights has won two in a row and three of its last five heading into its Week 8 “border battle” showdown with Tipton. Two weeks ago, Hamilton Heights knocked off one-loss Logansport (22-14) and won a big road comeback last week at Twin Lakes (25-17).
The Huskies are 12 points from a 5-2 record, having dropped single-digit games to Danville (27-24) and at Western (22-13).
Drew Woodruff is passing at 58.4 percent (87-149) for 1,149 yards and 10 TDs, throwing four INTs. AJ Flanagan leads in rushing with 429 on 81 carries and two scores, including 201 on 29 totes and two TDs at Twin Lakes. Cam Fleming has 401 yards on 26 receptions and five touchdowns.
Nathan Flanders leads the defense with 66 tackles, Will Duncan 4.5 sacks and Nick Bichey two INTs.
No. 7 Fishers Tigers (5-2, 4-1 HCC) at No. 6 Westfield Shamrocks (5-2, 4-1 HCC)
Tonight is the 24th all-time meeting, including playoffs. The Tigers have a narrow 13 wins to 10. But, the Shamrocks have won eight straight.
The Tigers lost a tough opener to Carmel (49-24) but have responded well. Fishers has won five of their last six at Lawrence North, Noblesville and HSE.
They lost at Brownsburg but bounced back with two consecutive wins at home over Avon (29-15) and an overtime thriller versus Franklin Central, 36-35.
Gage Sturgill ranks 15th in the state and 4th in 6A with 1,677 passing yards. Sturgill completes 58.9 percent (106-180), connecting with receivers for 16 touchdowns and an astounding zero interceptions.
Ryan Thembulembu has 635 yards on 93 carries and nine TDs. He’s also caught 15 passes for 222 and a pair of touchdowns.
Vincent Rozzi is 3rd in the state and leads 6A with 888 yards from 50 receptions and 11 TDs.
Westfield’s two losses are at No. 2 Carmel (34-10) and two weeks ago to No. 1 Brownsburg, 14-10. A win at Avon last week notched their fourth win of their last five.
The Rocks also have wins over Homestead, Zionsville, Noblesville and HSE.
Aiden Grabowski and Cooper Melvin combine for 1,109 yards, completing 59.8 percent and 8 TDs. Andrew Noble (300), Caiden Snow (271) and Broc Parker (239) have 48 catches.
Deacon King has 644 rushing yards on 111 carries and 7 TDs.
Culver Academy Eagles (2-5) at Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles (3-4)
This pair of Eagles teams have met five times, all going Guerin’s way, including 42-7 last year.
CMA has wins over Hammond Central and Kankakee Valley and losses to South Bend Adams, Mishawaka Marian, Knox, Fairfield and Bremen.
No statistics are available for Culver Military.
After a 3-1 start, the Golden Eagles look to snap a three-game losing streak tonight for Homecoming.
Outscored by Roncalli, Bishop Chatard and Pike 146-42 the last three games, Guerin hopes to right the ship against Culver Academy.
Quarterback Quentin Klee passes 57 percent (112-194) for 1,331 yards and 11 TDs. Jack Linden has 314 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The receiving foursome of Isaiah Lewis (537 yards), Kolbe Klee (287), Aidan Horn (210) and Linden (168) total 11 scores.
