Hamilton Southeastern held off Franklin Central to win 38-35 Friday, Oct. 10 in a home Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
The Flashes went up 14-0 in the first quarter, but the Royals’ Henry Wans got Southeastern on the board during the final minute of the period with a 92-yard kickoff return touchdown. The Royals took a 17-14 lead by halftime; Luke Marchionni kicked a 44-yard field goal, then Wans scored a second-quarter touchdown off a 33-yard interception return.
Southeastern went up 24-17 midway through the third quarter when Kendrick Pennybaker caught an 18-yard TD reception from Deaken Johnson. Franklin Central tied the game with a rushing touchdown, but Wans struck again with another kickoff return score, going 84 yards to the end zone.
The Royals led 31-21 going into the fourth quarter, and extended that lead to 38-21 after Pennybaker and Johnson connected for another touchdown, this one for 36 yards. Marchionni made all five extra-point kicks. The Flashes scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes of the game, but Southeastern held on for the win.
The Royals are 3-3 in conference play and 5-3 overall, and travel to Brownsburg this Friday to finish the regular season.
