Casey Norman, Kindergarten Teacher at Hamilton Heights Elementary School (HHES), has been named the Husky Hero for September.
Now in her ninth year at Hamilton Heights, Norman is celebrated for creating a strong classroom family where her five-year-olds feel loved, supported, and confident as they take on new learning.
Here’s what some of the nominators had to say about Norman:
Nikiah Conley: “Mrs. Norman teaches in a way that gets kids excited to learn! She keeps us involved without being there each day. She answers questions with a quick response or timely manner. If she doesn’t know the answer she finds out and helps to the best of her ability. As a parent in the world we live in it’s hard to put your child in someone else’s hands. I know when my daughter goes into class that she is able to learn and grow because of the teacher she has.”
Grateful parent (anonymous): “As a parent, I can’t express enough how thankful I am that my child has Mrs. Norman for their first year of school. Starting kindergarten can be such a big transition, but she made it feel fun, safe, and exciting from day one. My child comes home every day happy, confident, and eager to share what they learned – that’s a reflection of the care and creativity Mrs. Norman puts into everything they do. She has a special way of connecting with kids, making each one feel important and loved while helping them grow both in learning and in character. We are so grateful for all the patience, warmth, and joy Mrs. Norman brings into the classroom. This first year has been such a wonderful start, and it’s all thanks to an incredible teacher who truly makes a difference.”

“Being nominated by parents for a reward is incredibly meaningful to me,” Norman said of the honor which recognizes the time, care, and dedication she puts into supporting her students and their families. “Knowing that families value the love and patience I bring to the classroom touches my heart and reminds me why I love what I do. This recognition motivates me to continue giving my best each day and to keep making a positive impact in my students’ lives.”
Norman says she is motivated by the joy in watching her students grow – not only during the year she has them, but in the years that follow as they continue their learning journey at Hamilton Heights.
“It’s truly rewarding to watch them develop academically, socially, and emotionally,” she said. “For many of them, I have the privilege of being part of their very first school experience, helping them build confidence, curiosity, and a lasting love for learning.”
“Casey is loving, calm, and nurturing,” HHES Principal Julie Griffey said. “She’s a connector – with students, colleagues, and families – and an amazing kindergarten teacher.”
Norman added, “This award inspires me to keep giving my best each day. Knowing that families recognize and appreciate my efforts fills me with gratitude and motivates me to continue creating meaningful learning experiences for my students. It pushes me to keep learning, growing, and striving to be the best teacher I can be.”
