The Sheridan girls soccer team took care of business at its own sectional Thursday and will have a chance to play for a trophy on Saturday.
The Class 1A No. 11 Blackhawks defeated Lafayette Central Catholic 4-0 in the first Sectional 38 semifinal, played at Bud Wright Stadium. Sheridan scored its first goal right away, with Avery Hills getting her team on the board.
That was the only goal of the first half, but the Hawks picked up the pace in the second half with three more goals. Hills struck again early in the second half, with Molly Pottorff making the assist.
Norah Stites scored Sheridan’s third goal during the 58th minute, then Sadie Timme completed the scoring in the 69th minute, with Hills providing the assist.
The win was the first time in program history that the Blackhawks defeated the Golden Knights.
“We start fast,” said Sheridan coach Brian Prange. “We start fast, we’re going to be fine. If we don’t start fast, they’re going to take it to us. And they came out fast. We scored in the first six minutes.”
Sheridan will play No. 2-ranked and defending 1A state champion Faith Christian in the sectional championship. The game begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Faith Christian beat Rossville 10-0 in the other semifinal game.

University reached the Class 1A Sectional 41 championship at Cardinal Ritter with a 5-0 semifinal win over Christel House Academy on Thursday.
The Trailblazers led 3-0 at halftime; Bella Miller Krigger, Mack Feeney and Madie Encinia each made one goal. Feeney and Miller Krigger both added an additional goal in the second half. Meanwhile, Christel House had no shots on goal for the entire game.
University will play No. 6-ranked Heritage Christian at 6 p.m. Saturday for the championship. The Eagles defeated Bethesda Christian 7-0 in the other Thursday semifinal.

Hamilton Heights lost to host and No. 6-ranked Park Tudor 6-0 in the semifinals of Class 2A Sectional 26 Thursday.
The Huskies finished their season with a 10-9 record.

Westfield and Carmel both won their semifinals at Class 3A Sectional 9 at Zionsville on Thursday to set up a championship showdown.
The No. 5-ranked Shamrocks beat No. 19 Lawrence North 3-1 in the first semifinal. Brynn Sargent scored Westfield’s first goal late in the first half off a finish from Addie Colling, which gave the Rocks a 1-0 halftime lead.
Colling added a second goal, putting a leading pass from Tatum Hauser. Later, Colling sent a cross to Kylie Ipsen, who put it in the back of the net for Westfield’s third goal.
Third-ranked Carmel beat No. 10 Cathedral 3-0 in the other semifinal. Adalyn Cameron scored two goals for the Greyhounds, with Bella Cueto adding another goal. Kate Klinginsmith and Ryan Weber both made one assist.
Westfield and Carmel play for the Sectional 9 title at 6 p.m. Saturday.
