Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) will welcome back Blackhawk alumni and the community for next week’s Homecoming festivities.
Sheridan High School will honor the Classes of 2016 (10 year), 2001 (25 year), and 1976 (50 year) and recognizing members of the football team and cheerleaders from these years with a reception at 6 p.m. and introduction prior to the football game. The year’s theme of “Superheroes” will be engaged during the week.
The week is packed with tradition and school spirit. The Homecoming parade will be held at a new time, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., so more community members can join in the fun. SCS is hopeful that this change will allow more to enjoy the festivities. The parade will begin at Sheridan Middle School before traveling in front of Sheridan High School to Main Street in downtown Sheridan. The parade will then loop back up White Avenue before ending at Sheridan High School. The Powderpuff games will follow the parade at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The Homecoming football game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, where the Blackhawks will take the field in front of students, alumni, and fans as they take on Clinton Prairie. At halftime, Homecoming King and Queen will be announced.
Junior Student Council members Beth Adams and Sadie Timme shared their excitement for Homecoming week.
“I always look forward to helping plan the dress days for homecoming,” Adams said.
Timme added by saying, “[We] have been working really hard on making sure everything is set for Wednesday’s events and are super excited for the parade and Powderpuff.”
Student Council Sponsor Mathew Hewitt said, “SHS Student Council has been hard at working planning a variety of festivities for Homecoming Week, including decorating life-size versions of the mascot, the Homecoming Parade, spirit dress days, Powderpuff and selection of the Homecoming Court. A lot of work has gone into planning but well worth it for the memories created.”
Sheridan High School Principal Rick Davis shared in the excitement, saying, “Homecoming is always a special time – especially at Sheridan High School, where we’ve proudly celebrated the tradition for more than 100 years! The week’s activities and traditions bring excitement to our students while also welcoming back alumni and community members for that classic Friday night under the lights. We look forward to an incredible crowd this year as we continue this timeless Sheridan tradition.”
Sheridan looks forward to celebrating its proud traditions, honoring alumni, and showcasing school spirit during this special week.
