Westfield lost a close Hoosier Crossroads Conference game to Brownsburg 14-10 Friday, Sept. 26 at Riverview Health Stadium.
The Bulldogs scored first with a 24-yard reception near the midpoint of the first quarter. Diego Herrera got the Shamrocks on the board later in the period with a 38-yard field goal.
Westfield got its passing game going in the second quarter, when Cooper Melvin found freshman Caiden Snow for a 63-yard touchdown reception. Herrera’s extra-point kick gave the Rocks a 10-7 halftime lead; Logan Loring made a key defensive play by catching a Brownsburg pass for an interception in the end zone with one second left.
But the Bulldogs regained the lead in the third quarter with an 11-yard touchdown reception. Brownsburg held off Westfield in the fourth period, handing the Shamrocks their first HCC loss of the season.
Melvin was 5-of-7 for 96 yards. Isaac Weingart led the Rocks’ defense with 13 tackles, while Alex Aramboles made 10 tackles, including 2.5 sacks.
Westfield is 3-1 in conference play and 4-2 overall. The Rocks continue HCC action this Friday at Avon.
