Josie Kelley got a new putter on Monday. She won her first tournament with it on Tuesday.
Kelley, a Noblesville senior, triumphed at the Brittany Kelly Invitational, which took place at Woodland Country Club on Tuesday. The tournament honors the Hamilton Southeastern and Ball State University graduate and golf champion who worked as a pro at Woodland for several years.
“Yesterday, I went and got fitted for a new putter and bought it at PGA Superstore literally an hour after the fitting and had practice at Harbour Trees and came out here,” said Kelley.
Kelley finished the tournament with a two under par 70. She made five birdies in her round and helped the Millers to a team runner-up finish.
“It started off pretty good,” said Kelley. “We’ll see where it goes. A little bit of a change needed to happen.”
Zionsville won the team competition, scoring 301 to Noblesville’s 303. The Eagles’ Taylor Snively got off to a rough start with an 8 on her first hole. But she roared back into contention with five straight birdies on holes 3 through 7, then made two more on the back nine, eventually finishing with a one under par 71.
“I was just playing my game,” said Kelley. “I figured that her and a couple other players here would go pretty low. I have a lot of respect for her as a player and as a friend.”
