Hamilton Heights pulled away from visiting Tippecanoe Valley in the third quarter to get its first win of the season, 35-19, Friday Sept. 5.
The Vikings got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run to start the second quarter. The Huskies answered a few minutes later when Dre Chandler caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Drew Woodruff. Landon Hickman made a two-point run, and Heights led 8-7.
Tippecanoe Valley scored on another short run late in the quarter, but the Huskies responded again: Cam Fleming hauled in a 68-yard TD throw from Woodruff. Keegan Kavanaugh made the first of his three extra-point kicks, and Heights held a 15-13 halftime lead.
The Huskies took control in the third period, as Woodruff sent a 33-yard touchdown pass to Nick Bichey, then Josh Getchell powered in a 30-yard run to the end zone. Heights led 28-13 at the end of the third. The Vikings cut the score to 28-19 with a passing touchdown early in the fourth, but AJ Flannagan sealed the game for the Huskies with a 58-yard TD run late in the quarter.
Woodruff had an exceptional game, completing 12 of 16 passes for 208 yards. Chandler had the most receptions with four for 76 yards, while Fleming had three catches for 82 yards.
Will DeStefano and Nathan Flanders both totaled 14 tackles, while Cooper Craft and Hickman each made nine tackles.
Heights is 1-2 and hosts Danville this Friday.
