Hamilton Heights lost its Hoosier Conference opener Friday, Sept. 19 at Western, falling 22-13.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the first quarter. The Huskies scored first, with Dre Chandler catching a 22-yard scoring pass from Drew Woodruff. Keegan Kavanaugh made the extra-point kick.
The Panthers tied the game on a rushing touchdown, and the score stayed 7-7 through the end of the quarter and halftime. Western took the lead in the third quarter on another rushing touchdown, then made a two-point run to lead 15-7.
Western increased its advantage to 22-7 in the fourth quarter with another rushing score. Cooper Craft recovered a fumble and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown late in the period. The Heights defense was working hard all night: Nathan Flanders is credited with 18 tackles (solo and assist), followed by Craft with 16, Justin Tilton and Landon Hickman with 13 each and Harley Stetnish with 12.
Woodruff was 5-of-11 passing with 46 yards.
The Huskies are 1-4 overall and return home this Friday to host Logansport in a conference game.
