Hamilton Heights dropped a close home game with Danville 27-24 Friday, Sept. 12.
The Warriors scored a rushing touchdown in each of the first two quarters to lead 14-0 early in the second period. The Huskies then dominated the remainder of the quarter to take a 17-14 advantage by halftime.
Cam Fleming started the Heights scoring by catching a 21-yard touchdown pass from Drew Woodruff. Will DeStefano recovered a blocked punt and ran it 19 yards into the end zone. Keegan Kavanaugh kicked both extra points, then finished the half with a 23-yard field goal.
Danville reclaimed the lead in the third quarter with another rushing touchdown. The Huskies jumped ahead early in the fourth, when Fleming hauled in a 13-yard TD reception from Woodruff; Kavanaugh made the extra-point kick. But the Warriors scored another rushing touchdown late in the fourth, then forced a turnover on downs to get the victory.
Woodruff had a solid night, completing 17 of 29 attempts for 194 yards and the two touchdowns. Fleming had six receptions. Landon Hickman totaled 14 tackles, followed by 13 for Nathan Flanders and DeStefano, 11 for Justin Tilton and Cooper Craft and 10 for Will Duncan.
Heights is 1-3 and begins Hoosier Conference play this Friday at Western.
