Carmel dropped its first game of the season Friday, Sept. 12, falling at Louisville Trinity 41-28.
The Shamrocks scored first, with Zane Johnson throwing a 68-yard touchdown pass to Jemaurion Berry. The Greyhounds answered with their own TD throw: Anthony Coellner sent a 25-yard pass to Spencer Sell and Matthew Obermeier’s kick tied the game.
Trinity went up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter on a field goal, then scored on another Johnson touchdown pass to lead 17-7. Coellner again responded, tossing a 64-yard throw to Dominic Shockley, who took it into the end zone. Obermeier made the kick, and Carmel was within 17-14.
But the Shamrocks took over after that, scoring 24 unanswered points. Johnson threw for two more touchdowns, giving him four for the game. Trinity also made a field goal, then scored on an interception return.
Coellner found Shockley again for a nine-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter, then Ayden Johnson ran the ball in for a two-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Coellner finished the game 18 of 28, totaling 236 yards and three touchdowns. Shockley and Sell both made five catches, while Andrew Pemberton and Jacob Bellin each made four catches. Pemberton also led the rushing with 120 yards.
Carmel is 3-1 and hosts Columbus North this Friday.
