Fishers got off to a stunning start at the Mudsock game Friday, Sept. 12, and that carried the host Tigers to a 28-16 victory over Hamilton Southeastern to win the Mudsock trophy.

Fishers led 21-0 after the first quarter. Ryan Thembulembu scored the game’s first points, punching the ball in from the one-yard line a little over two minutes into the contest. Gage Sturgill sent a 42-yard touchdown pass into the hands of Vincent Rozzi a minute later.
Sturgill then connected with Thembulembu late in the quarter for a 15-yard TD pass play. Micah Hillen made all three extra-point kicks.
The Royals cut into that lead in the second quarter. Luke Marchionni got Southeastern onto the board with a 37-yard field goal, then Carter Reed scored on a six-yard run. Marchionni made the extra-point kick and the Royals were within 21-10 at the break.
Sturgill made a big play in the third quarter, dashing 56 yards into the end zone with 3:18 left. Another Hillen kick put Fishers up 28-10. Southeastern’s Deacon Johnson threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Graham Toner late in the fourth quarter.
Sturgill finished the game 11-of-20 through the air, totaling 174 yards. Thembulembu totaled 105 yards rushing, while Rozzi caught five passes for 99 yards.
Terry Walker III completed 14 of 25 attempts for HSE, totaling 131 yards. Collin Walls had eight receptions, with Toner making seven.
The game was also a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest. Fishers is 2-0 in the league and the Royals are 1-1. Both teams are 3-1 overall. The Tigers play at Brownsburg this Friday, while Southeastern hosts Westfield.
