WESTFIELD – The Westfield Shamrocks took a quick three-set win against the Noblesville Millers on Thursday, 25-12, 25-17, 25-16.
The first set started with intense rallies as both teams fought for the early lead. The Class 4A No. 1 Shamrocks soon took command with a series of striking hits from Carsyn Comer that sent the ball right through the Millers. They maintained their lead despite solid blocks from Reese Resmer and Ella Coppock. Paige Rudolph added to the score with well-placed spikes that kept the pressure high. The Shamrocks ended the set in their favor 25-12.
The Millers brought renewed energy into the second set and took the lead to gain some momentum. They had multiple powerful attacks from Kennedy Lutz that made it a hard fight for the Shamrocks, but it was the Shamrocks’ stamina during long volleys that made the difference. The Shamrocks took the lead again with hits from Laynie Holman, which consistently found holes in the Millers’ defense. They finished strong and ended the set in their favor 25-17.
Tension filled the gym as both teams entered the third set, knowing this was the make-or-break moment. The Milers put up a fight with Resmer and Coppock continuing to maintain their powerful blocks at the net. But the Shamrocks found ways around it, finding different clever ways to gather points. Kenna Robinson scored multiple aces and firmly put points on the board. After a hard-fought match, the Shamrocks’ consistency led to a final set win of 25-16, and a 3-0 win overall to carry on their undefeated streak. Westfield is 11-0.
“Our serving has continued to dominate, I felt that gave us the opportunity to defend better,” said Westfield head coach Sean Keeve.
The Noblesville Millers will host an invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday facing Union County and Western. The Westfield Shamrocks will attend the Hamilton Southeastern invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday facing Cathedral and Mt. Vernon.
