CARMEL – After a tough loss to start the season, the Carmel girls soccer team has found its footing.

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, fell to 3A No. 1 Hamilton Southeastern to start the season Aug. 16, but have since won their last three games. Carmel beat 2A No. 5 Guerin Catholic 4-0 last Friday, Aug. 22, then scored a 3-0 win against 3A No. 9 Bloomington South Monday.
The ‘Hounds kept their victory train rolling on Wednesday, beating Pendleton Heights 5-0. Adalyn Cameron led the way for Carmel with two goals, while Elsie Flanders, Ryan Weber and Olivia Ade all scored one goal.
“We didn’t do the best the first game. We struggled,” said Cameron. “But I feel like as time’s gone on, we’ve gotten better together.”
The Greyhounds are back in action Saturday when they host their own invitational. Carmel’s first opponent is Walsh Jesuit from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; ‘Hounds coach John Simmonds said the Warriors are “highly-ranked” in the nation. 3A No. 4 Cathedral and 3A No. 10 Brownsburg are also participating in the tournament.
Simmonds said the team is going in the right direction. “I say that today, but sometimes it’s a roller coaster,” he said. “You’re up and down, so hopefully we stay on the upside of it.”

Westfield, ranked No. 7 in 3A, zoomed to a 6-1 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win against Franklin Central on Wednesday.
Kylie Ipsen scored the Shamrocks’ first goal, assisted by Elle Fischer. Hailey McDaniel kicked in the second goal. The Flashes scored their goal after that, but Ary Ali put in another Westfield goal before halftime on a corner kick. The Rocks led 3-1 at the break.
Zahara Ali scored first for Westfield in the second half, then later slotted a pass to Addie Colling. She played the cross to Ava Willis, who scored the goal. Arri Cooke-Dennis completed the Shamrocks’ scoring off an Ella Carson pass.
Westfield is 2-0 in HCC play and 4-0 overall. The Rocks host Bishop Chatard tonight.

Fishers, ranked No. 18 in 3A, dropped an HCC game to 3A No. 11 Zionsville 3-1 on Wednesday.
Elise May scored the Tigers’ goal, with Delaney Allgeier making the assist.
Fishers is 0-2 in conference play and 1-2-1 overall. The Tigers play in the Evansville Reitz Panther Classic this weekend.

University won its first game of the season Monday, beating Scecina 5-0.
Bella Miller Krigger and Lia Stennis both scored goals for the Trailblazers in the first half. Rosie Levenshus added an early second-half goal, then Lauren Quinto and Mack Feeney both scored goals late. Annie Ingersoll got the goalkeeper shutout.
University hosts Hamilton Heights on Monday.
