The Hamilton Heights girls cross country team scored a dominant victory last Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Logansport Jacob Graf Cross Country Invitational.
The entire state took notice. In this week’s IATCCC girls cross country poll, the Huskies are ranked No. 11. (You can see the polls below.) Heights scored 31 points, well ahead of runner-up Western’s 102 points.
The Huskies placed three runners in the top six, led by race-winner Allie Bushey, who finished in a time of 19 minutes, 17.4 seconds. Lillian Higgins took third, in 19:57.0, while Anna Monnin finished sixth, in 20:41.0. Other Heights runners were Amira Leer (10th, 21:01.1), Matilda Higgins (11th, 21:04.41), Ayla Madara (14th, 21:35.8) and Selah Heuer (32nd, 23:36.6).
Heights’ boys team placed third in that division with a score of 99 points. Isaiah Heuer led the Huskies by taking third in 16:57.4. Other Heights runners were Nicholas Bragg (17th, 18:10.2), 21. Thomas Girolamo (21st, 18:16.8), Hudson Holt (22nd, 18:17.8), Charles Wedmore (36th, 18:46.3), Will Monnin (37th, 18:46.4) and Aiden Clarke (38th, 18:49.6).

Westfield competed at the Plainfield Relays, sweeping both the boys and girls events.
The Shamrocks boys team scored 14 points, placing two teams in the top three. Bryce Pittman and Luke Moulder combined to finish second in 30:15.54, followed by Nathan McKeever and Carson Ackley placing third in 30:25.79. Donovan Ledford and Deagan Imel completed the scoring, taking ninth in 31:15.54.
In the girls race, Westfield won with 16 points. The team of Emma Pitney and Jordyn Landrum finished fourth, clocking in at 36:02.69. Samantha Foster and Jenna Burns placed fifth in 36:04.05, while Ella Bozarth and Mackenna Condon took seventh, finishing in 37:03.15.

Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern and University competed at the John Cleland Zionsville Early Bird meet at Northview Church.
The meet was divided into a Freshman/Sophomore division and a Junior/Senior division. The Greyhounds won the Freshman/Sophomore boys race (38 points) and Junior/Senior girls race (49 points). Annabel Pollert and Larkin Taylor finished 1-2 for the Greyhounds in the Junior/Senior girls race; Pollert won in 14:01.1 while Taylor was the runner-up in 14:12.4.
Carmel placed second behind Homestead (58-63) in the Freshman/Sophomore girls even, while the Junior/Senior boys finished ninth (266 points).
Hamilton Southeastern finished third in Junior/Senior boys (89 points), with Isaac Smith winning the 4K race in 12:28.3. The Royals were fourth in Freshman/Sophomore boys (97 points), sixth in Junior/Senior girls (197 points) and seventh in Freshman/Sophomore girls (178 points). University placed 16th in Junior/Senior boys 446 points.

Fishers competed at the Brownsburg 4K, with the girls winning and the boys placing second.
The Tigers won the girls division with 36 points. Caitlin Hawkins placed third in 14:34.58, with Mia Quagliaroli taking fifth in 15:01.75. Other top seven runners were Allie Belush (eighth, 15:26.96), Riley Teurnan (ninth, 15:33.17), Abby Lotter (11th, 15:42.16), Lilah Gunn (13th, 16:05.63) and Lorelai Polk (14th, 16:07.43).
The Fishers boys finished second to Brownsburg, 29-35. The Tigers had three runners in the top five, starting with runner-up Declan Mohr, who clocked in at 12:21.52. Reece Torres placed third in 12:27.40 and Nathan Thomas was fifth in 12:28.06. Other top seven runners were Kale Ormes (12th, 12:51.29), Mason Lapp (13th, 12:55.12), Brady FitzGerald (14th, 12:55.79) and Braylen Floyd (17th, 13:03.80).

Guerin Catholic competed in the Taylor University Opener. The Golden Eagles girls team won the meet, while the boys placed second.
Guerin Catholic’s girls scored 48 points and landed two runners in the top five. Freshman Chloe Tragesser was the runner-up, finishing in a time of 19:18.1, while Brinna Wolf took fourth in 20:37.2. Taylor Tragesser took seventh, clocking in at 20:54.0.
Other GC top seven runners were Jillian Tichenor (15th, 21:25.1), Claire Flannagan (20th, 21:41.1), Kara Van Woerkom (21st, 21:41.5) and Keira Hines (24th, 22:13.6).
The Golden Eagles boys scored 97 points, behind only Convoy Crestview (Ohio), which scored 74 points. Cole Eckstein led the GC team by placing seventh in a time of 16:46.7. Other Guerin Catholic top seven runners were Hunter Kinzle-Gorman (12th, 17:02.5), Sean Lafferiere (16th, 17:26.7), Ashton Sommer (27th, 17:44.9), Austin Rankin (30th, 17:56.0), Timmy Galvin (38th, 18:01.5) and Gavin Becher (49th, 18:31.6).
