On March 5, Sheridan Elementary School (SES) welcomed students and families for another exciting Family Game Night. This annual evening is focused on bringing together families for a night of fun learning within a relaxed atmosphere. The night brought educational games and laughter together.
All evening long, families rotated through the variety of game stations. These games encouraged teamwork and connected to the educational focus of PBL (Project-Based Learning). “Old-school” board games and other interactive “games” provided an opportunity to play together while reinforcing the academic skills that SES drives home every day.
There was also a new feature: literacy-based games. These “games” highlighted the importance of reading at home. Another new feature was the free book giveaway. Students were able to choose books to take home and add to their home libraries. Activities like this help encourage reading beyond the classroom and help SES students build strong literacy habits.
“Our Family Game Nights are a wonderful opportunity for families to come into the school, spend time together, and see how learning can happen through fun activities,” SES Principal Valerie Roberts said. “Seeing our students excited about the games, reading, and working alongside their family makes these events all the more worth it.”
This event, along with countless others, provides SES students, families, and staff a unique opportunity to spend quality time together in a fun, engaging, and collaborative way. With the continued success of events like Family Game Night, SES looks forward to hosting more opportunities that bring everyone together while supporting the education and growth of the students.
