Guerin Catholic’s three-year sectional championship streak came to an end at the hands of Brebeuf Jesuit.
The Circle City Conference rivals – soon to be Hoosier Heritage Conference rivals – played in the final of Class 3A Sectional 25 Saturday, March 7 at Frankfort’s Case Arena. The Braves, coached by Sheridan graduate Allen Glunt, won 48-47 to claim their first sectional since 2022.
The Golden Eagles led 15-11 after one quarter before Brebeuf blasted ahead 28-17 during the second period. Guerin Catholic went on a 7-0 run to cut the Braves’ lead to 28-24 by halftime.
The Golden Eagles moved ahead 36-35 after three quarters. The teams were tied at 47-47 when Austin Ford made a free throw with 1.5 seconds left in the fourth to clinch the game.
Jake Grissom led the GC scoring with 15 points, followed by Carter Murans with 14 points. Grissom also collected seven rebounds while Murans pulled five.
In the Friday, March 7 semifinal, Guerin Catholic beat Danville 56-34. The Golden Eagles outscored the Warriors in all four quarters, leading 13-9 after one and 27-21 at halftime.
Grissom poured in 24 points, with Murans adding 14 points and eight rebounds. Alex Wall collected five rebounds. Hayden Rogers dished out eight assists.
Guerin Catholic finished the season 21-6, its first under new coach Sam Gardner. The Golden Eagles cleared the 20-win mark for the fourth consecutive season.
