The application for the fourth annual Christine D. Brown Memorial Scholarship is now available on the Westfield Youth Assistance Program website.
The Memorial Scholarship is in honor of WYAP Early Intervention Advocate Christine Brown, who passed away in August 2022. Her family, the board of directors, and generous donors have established the Christine D. Brown Memorial Scholarship with one annual $5,002 scholarship. Brown worked with 502 youth over her 10 years with WYAP and touched countless lives in the Westfield community and beyond.
The annual scholarship is open to all current and former graduates 25 and under who attended Westfield Washington Schools or resided in the township. Prior involvement with WYAP is not a requirement for the scholarship, and a complete list of scholarship eligibility requirements can be found on the scholarship application page.
“The Christine D. Brown Memorial Scholarship reflects Christine’s unwavering commitment during her service to ensuring that every child in Westfield had the opportunity to reach their full potential,” WYAP Board President Brittany Winebar said. “She had a rare ability to ignite a spark in every young person she served. Her compassion, dedication, and enduring love for youth continue to guide this scholarship. Through this investment in education, Christine’s legacy lives on, helping future generations build pathways to success.”
WYAP has worked for the last 17 years to connect Westfield youth with services like mentoring, tutoring, mental health counseling, medical services, enrichment activities, and more. The scholarship highlights WYAP’s emphasis on giving back to the youth in the Westfield community. This scholarship works to achieve WYAP’s long-term goal of giving youth every advantage to be successful and grow into adults who largely contribute to their community.
The application deadline for the scholarship is Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The recipient will be notified by April 20 and invited to attend the WYAP Youth Recognition Breakfast at IMMI on May 6.
